Predict the Next Winner

The Next Survivor

Can data from past winners help you predict who wins next?

Meet the contestants, investigate past winners, and use charts and statistics to defend—or rethink—your prediction.

Bring this case to your students

The setup

Students begin with fictional contestant profiles and an initial prediction. As data about previous winners arrives, teams decide how to organize it and which evidence deserves the most weight.

What students do

  1. Choose an initial contestant and explain the reasoning.
  2. Sort information, build graphs, and explore measures of center with physical materials.
  3. Use a fuller set of evidence to revise or defend a final prediction.

What they take with them

Students learn to ask what a data set can tell them, what it cannot, and how a strong argument can change as new information arrives.
